Indian Railways has increased the earnings target by selling train tickets for the financial year 2020-21 starting from April. For the next financial year, the income through ticket has been increased by Rs 5000 crore to 61,000 crore rupees. At the same time, the target of freight income has also been increased from Rs 4000 crore to Rs 1.47 lakh crore.

How much will railway revenue increase by increasing fares - Railways announced to increase passenger fares in December. From 1 January 2020, passenger fares have been increased by 1 to 4 paise per km. Railways has increased the sleeper class by 2 paise per kilometer while in the AC class by 4 paise per kilometer. The Railways are expected to earn an additional Rs 2,312.36 crore from the increase in fares.

Why the fall in freight earnings - Railways have said that the transportation of cement and cuckoo has decreased due to economic slowdown. Railways says that in the third quarter, there has been a strong growth in revenue through freight. It was Rs 29,066.92 crore in the first quarter. Whereas, it fell to Rs 25,165.13 crore in the second quarter. After this, it has increased to Rs 28,032.80 crore in the October-December quarter.
