Pan Card Update: How to apply PAN card online, Know the whole process

Pan Card is an important document in India. PAN card is required for filing income tax return, opening a back account and payment above Rs 50,000. PAN card is issued to Indian citizens (also under 18 years of age), Indian nationals living abroad and foreign nationals. However, the process of online application is different for these three categories of citizens. If you are an Indian citizen and you want to apply for a new PAN card, today we are going to tell you a few steps with the help of which you can apply online easily.

Documents required for applying online PAN card

Indian citizens need three types of documents. This includes ID proof, housing certificate (

Documents must not be older than three months) and birth certificate.

1) Document for ID proof

   Voter ID Card

   Ration Card (Photo must be attached)

   Passport

   driving license

   Arms license

   Aadhar Card

   Photo ID Card issued by Central Government or State Government

   Pension Card (Photo must be attached)

   Central Government Health Scheme Card or Ex-Servicemen Health Scheme Photo Card

   Your name, officer's stamp on the letter head of the bank certificate or branch. Your photo, bank account number should be on the certificate.

2) Document for housing certificate (any one)

   electricity bill

   Landline or broadband connection bill

   water bill

   Consumer gas connection card or gas pipeline bill

   Bank account statement

   Depository Account Statement

   Credit card statement

   Copy of post office passbook (your address must be entered)

   Passport

   Voter ID Card

   Property Tax (latest)

   driving license

   Government issued housing certificate

   Aadhaar Card

   Property registration document

3) Document for date of birth

   Birth certificate issued by municipal authority or other office.

   Pension payment order

   Marriage certificate

   Marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage

   Matriculation certificate

   Passport

PAN card application fee

Indian citizens will have to pay an application fee of Rs 116 (in addition to online application charge of around Rs 5). Foreign nationals will have to pay Rs 1,020 (plus Rs 5).

How to apply for PAN card online

1) To apply for PAN card, visit NSDL or UTITSL website. Both sites are authorized. Let us tell you the steps how you can apply for a new PAN card from the NSDL site.

2) After clicking on the link given above, you will see the online PAN application at the top of the page. After that go to the application type, click on New PAN - Indian Citizen (Form 49A) here. If you are a foreign national then click on (Form 49AA).

3) After this choose the category. Most people will choose the individual option.

4) Then enter the personal information sought, such as name, date of birth, mobile number etc. After this enter the captcha code and click on submit button.

5) After this you have to choose how you want to provide the documents for PAN. For this you have 3 options, if you want, you can authenticate through Aadhaar Card. You can submit the scanned photo or send the document through e-Sign.

6) We have selected Aadhaar card process. OTP will come to you, after which you have to pay.

7) Enter the requested information such as Aadhaar number (optional). Then click on Next.

8) After this you have to enter the name, date of birth, address etc. and click on Next.

9) After this, click on Banana Skin which is AO code. It may look complicated to you but it is simple. This is followed by the choice of Indian citizens, NRIs, defense personnel and government categories appearing above.

10) After this choose AO Code, enter your state and region. Wait for a few seconds and then you will see the full list of AO codes. After that, scroll down and choose the category which suits you best. Here you will see many classes such as company, non-income people, government employees, private sector employees. If you are not aware of which category you fall into, contact CA. Choose the correct AO code and then click on Next.

11) Select the document for age and residence certificate. After entering the requested information, click on the submit button.

12) After this the payment page will open, here you will see many payment options.

13) Aadhaar OTP will be sought to authenticate after payment or you can also submit documents through E-sign. Also, as we told you earlier, you can send a copy of the documents to NSDL. You will receive mail by NSDL over email, after the application is processed the PAN card will be delivered to your address.
