World Youth Skills Day: When and Why Is It Celebrated!

In 2019, 16% of the global population is aged between 15 to 24 years. But these 1.2 billion people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed that adults and are continuously exposed to lower quality of jobs, and other inconveniences.

Additionally, women in this category are more likely to be unemployed and under-paid. They are also more likely to work under temporary contracts or part-time jobs.

To combat these issues and spread awareness about the same, the United Nations (UN) declared July 15 as the World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) in 2014. The theme for 2019's WYSD is to shed light on the mechanisms needed to operationalize lifelong learning.
