Concept of Voltage rise and drop

In electronics and electrical circuit, there are two kind of EMF or potential difference. Both are expressed in Volts but some characteristics are different. One type of EMF is called voltage rise and the other is called as voltage drop.

The energy introduced into the circuit is called voltage drop. Voltage drop and rise are expressed in volts. If you attempt to measure both the voltage rise and voltage drop a multimeter cannot indicate the difference.

There is an important difference between the voltage rise and voltage drop. If you hold a battery in your hand, a potential already exists between the two terminal even though the battery is not connected in the circuit. Thus voltage rise exists.

A voltage drop occurs when the positive charge moves across the variation of voltage from the positive side to the negative side. Hence we can understand that the energy is decreased that is voltage drop.

A voltage rise occurs when the positive charge moves across the variation of voltage from the negative side to the positive side hence we can understand energy is increased that is voltage rise.
