Science and technology gave us wonderful inventions in every field.Virtual reality is the latest addition to the list of invention.It is growing with the increase in demand.It has been increasingly used in various areas.Its market is going to flourish in the coming days.Let's know about the concept of virtual reality.

What is virtual Reality?

Virtual reality is made up of two words, virtual and reality.Virtual means something appears as if it is real and reality means something that really exists but not imagined, invented and theoretical.After combining these two words, we come at a conclusion that virtual reality means near reality.In other words, we can say that virtual reality can be defined as the three dimensional environment created by using computer technology for the users to explore and interact within it.It creates a virtual environment and puts us in it where we feel like existing in the real environment.Virtual reality is believable, immersive, interactive, computer generated and explorable.For example, when you dream, imaginary pictures and scenes come to your mind which give us real like feelings. Sometimes, we feel like we are there, both mentally and physically but actually the reality is you are in a virtual environment created by your mind.This is virtual reality.It gives you a feeling like you are in real environment but environment will be unreal, virtual and computer generated.

What devices are required for virtual reality?

Virtual reality system requires head mounted display (HMD),computer or mobile phone and data gloves.

HMDS:

HMD is a headset used to wear on head.It has two tiny screens that produce different images to the two eyes due to which brain creates a combined 3d image.Headset uses position sensors that move the pictures according to your body movement.When you move,the whole 3d world moves with you.

Data gloves:

It is just like gloves but there are sensored wired on it to handle the virtual objects.We can detect hand and figure motion with the help of these data gloves.

Applications/pros:

1.It is used for entertainment purpose like cinemas, pictures, and videos games.Nowadays, 3d games are on rise. Children love to play these advanced games.We can see that 3d effects are being widely used in action movies recently

2.It is used in medical field for the patients suffering from alzheimer disease to feel the real experience .

3.We can use it for training and educational purpose so that a virtual environment can be created to give a real like experience for the learners who can acquire the skills easily without any failure in the real world.

Cons:

1.It can cause harmful effect on eyes due to continuous watching of scenes.

2.Headset is heavy to wear for a long period of time which can be tiring and troublesome.
