Exploring the Blu-Ray Disk in PC Hardware

Blu-ray is also known as Blu-ray Disk or BD is an optical storage medium that stores, records and plays high-definition videos and digital audio. Blu-ray is developed by Blu-ray Disk association (BDA). Instead of red laser that is used by currently optical disk technologies such as DVD and CD to read and write data, blu-ray uses a blue-violet laser. The minimum storing capacity of blu-ray disk 27 GB, that means a single layer disk can store 27 GB of data while 50 GB of data can be stored in double layer disk. The speed of blu-ray is 36 Mbps comparatively higher than DVD which transfer speed/rate is 10 Mbps.

BD-R: It refers to the Blu-ray technology that is used for recording HD videos as well as storing data. There is a disadvantage of this type of technology, data can be written only once.

BD-RW: It refers to the Blu-ray technology where data can be written more than once. User can erase and rewrite the data according to his need.
