The human reproductive cells combines with a natural process and that combination gradually transforms into a small fetus in the womb of a mother. The nourishment is provided inside the womb by the mother and then there is growth of the fetus. The growth takes place in phases and eventually the fetus turns into a small baby. But do you know how transfer of nutrients takes place for nourishment of the baby?
There is one essential connection between the mother and the baby during the growth period and just before the birth of the baby. That connection is umbilical cord. The supply of nutrients and oxygenated blood is bridged because of the umbilical cord.

How does the umbilical cord helps? The cord incorporates three blood vessels in which two are arteries and one is vein. The baby gets oxygenated blood and nutrients from the vein which is attached to the placenta (mother's blood supply). The two arteries perform the task of transporting waste to the placenta where the disposal process is carried out with the help of mother's kidney.
The umbilical cord is not just limited for the blood and nutrient supply for the baby but has other advantages also. The umbilical cord contains ample amount of fluids of stem cells which can be used for curing cancer, anemia and other disorders related to immune system. The extraction of the fluid contains stem cells which are 10 times more in volume as compared to the bone marrow. The process of extraction is not complex at the same time.
Hence these stem cells are advantageous and can be reserved as they possess great potential towards transplantations. The umbilical cord is a necessary element which act as a supply line for the baby and for the treatment of diseases.
