Have you become the slave of social media?

Have you become the slave of social media?
The dawn of the 21st century began with the emanation of the new branches of science or more precisely, humankind witnessed a glimpse of technology. With almost two decades over, that initial glimpse has metamorphosed into a hard-wired dimension of our life. Earlier, the arrival of technology was seen as a companion to humans in order to absorb the workload. With the passage of time, technology has changed the scenario beyond the horizons of vision. Since 2010, the human world has observed a drastic evolution of technology that has resulted in its novel branches. Among them, some of the applications, which can also be viewed as a curate’s egg, are artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotic engineering and many more, which are currently in their gestation period. But for a layman, the only thing that matters is AI, which has given him a blissful dose of distraction, social media.

In the 3rd decade of the 21st century, you consume most of you golden time on a virtual social platform. These virtual comfort zones, better known as social media in colloquial dialect, are the sources of most of the pieces of information. A fait accompli is that you are an uncontrollable and voracious devourer of whatever you get at ease and give yourself some sort of euphoric sensation. That said, the ruthless engaging with social media is obvious and asking for responsible use of it is not justifiable.

A grim consequence of this wolfish attitude is rampant dissemination of fake news, meaningless nonsense, the micro-outrages, the celebrity gossip planted by PR people and the fake memes that aim at distorting history and the present. All these slack-jawed narratives drawn merely on the basis of the crunchy news served on social media create an outstandingly bad culture, that portends destruction and nothing more. All this seems pretty normal but deep down it shakes the very foundation of humankind. There’s nothing normal about your downright submission to technology. It actually manifests your slavish tendency. After being infatuated or more accurately infected with the algorithms of AI, you have become subject to impulsive reactions with absolute disregard to rationality and conscience. Every single event that happens across the globe, instantaneously, the social media platforms get proliferated by distorted news and you happily consume it and jump into a level of ecstasy. That incorporation of fake news makes you an acolyte of social media which is tantamount to being a slave. A notification displays on your phone and you hastily, without giving a second thought, run towards that is an unexceptional demonstration of you being a slave. A slave who, owing to his indiscipline and fragile mind has forgotten how to use technology for his own good.

The only way to get out of this is by giving high regards to facts, relying on your prudence and using the platforms in a very discreet and controlled manner. Technology needs to be our slave and not the other way around. Play smart, be a user, not a slave!
